Used to be

Used to be after a night out, I'd plow under the covers and not emerge until the elephant got off my head. Now, I go out for a quiet evening with the ladies, sit through a movie, and get home to find sick baby who needs tender loving care for two nights.

Used by be that I could give my kids that tender loving care for a week or so and still revive my own weary body with quick cat naps here and there. Now I drag myself out of bed and gaze into the deep wrinkled dark circles under my eyes knowing they will remain there for at least three days.

Used to be I could pack a 40 backpack up to the top of Mt. Whitney. Nowadays I am dead tired after walking 2.7 miles around our local reservoir (perhaps I shouldn't have done it three days in a row, one of them pushing a baby stroller).

Used to be I ate hamburgers and fries for dinner followed by a hot fudge sundae and weighed 115 pounds. Now I eat lean cuisine and a healthy helping of extra veggies and the scale tips 144. (2 more pounds and weight watchers is going to make me pay).

Used to be that I read a book every couple of weeks. Now it takes me months because I go to bed, open the book, and fall asleep within a dozen pages.

Used to be, perhaps only a year or so ago, that I would write in this blog almost everyday. Now I write in this blog almost every week.

Okay, I'm recovering from sick baby, resting my aching feet, tossing away the half dozen chocolate kiss wrappers, and heading off to bed to finish one book and start a new one. Notice I have written in this blog too. Wasn't I supposed to watch Academy Awards of something tonight? Oops, used to be I'd remember things like that.
