104 Days to Bay to Breakers

Friday 4411 - well that's a bit better

Just found out from Harvard University reports that I now have a 55 percent greater chance of heart disease than carefree women who do not care for grandkids more than nine hours per week. Most likely reason - stress. Oh oh.

Expensive lessons: Both my sons have been snuckered into taking counterfeit 20 dollar bills. My taxi driver son finds that at least once a night someone tries to pass one of these off. My other son picked up one at a gas station in one of the richest communities in this area. These bills really do look real. Could have fooled me. Check the Secret Service website .

Going downhill

Thursday 105 days left - only 2877 steps - egadds I'm going down, not up. Oh well, I'll make up for it this weekend.

Minnie and Rusty drink water out of the toilet. They also drink drops of water in sinks. If I leave dishes in the sink, they will drink dirty water in those. They drink water out of plant pots. They don't drink out of the fancy ceramic bowl I purchased for them as suggested in some pet lovers articles. Yesterday I found an article that suggested that some cats prefer bottled water... you guessed it... I tried it... One Kirkland water bottle later... I caught Rusty drinking out of the toilet... Minnie sniffed it and walked away twitching her tail in disgust. Maybe they prefer mountain spring bottled water.

Sweater tags. The ones that keep you from stealing. I wore a new sweater last week. Then I washed it. As I was removing it from the dryer I noticed the tag, "remove before wearing or washing." So, did I contaminate my entire laundry? Also, I must not have gone shopping on the day I wore the sweater. But then, how did I get out of the store when I bought it?

Training & Shopping

106 days left til Bay to Breakers

Wednesday 3182 - plus 1 hour of Pilates
Excuses, babysitting grandson because his mama is sick. Does crawling on floor with baby for a couple of hours count as exercise???

Here's something I read that might be useful "Shop at stores with concrete floors. That way you are paying for the merchandise and not the fancy setup." Costco Connection, one of Clark Howard's money saving tips. His website has tons of great links. I'm off now to save money.

Training

Sunday 4978
Monday 3729
Tuesday 3713

Steps, that is.

What do I think I'm doing anyway? I said once that I would never ever enter another footrace. Now my red hat group has done it... they decided we should participate in the Bay to Breakers. May 16th.

It's been 20 some years since I jogged in the Bay to Breakers. It's been at least 5 years since I last jogged. Now, we are talking walking. Back of the pack walking (not backpack walking). Over seven miles, mostly flat, except for that one hill, maybe 15,000 steps. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it.

So here's my plan, I aim for 5,000 steps per day. Or maybe an average 5,000 steps per day, say 35,000 per week. I have 108 days left to train. Only 540,000 steps away.

Egadd, I'm already 2580 steps behind in only three days.

But there's another option: I've chartered a bus for our group. My husband will drop us off at the start and retrieve our sagging bodies at the end. Do you think anyone would notice if I never got off the bus?

Not Much Doing

I got an email today. Someone says "Not Much Doing" It's been 10 days...

Well, obviously there is too much doing. Too much babysitting. Too much work. Too much Red Hatting.

Getting ready for big Red Hat event this Saturday. Expecting 35 Red Hatters to show up for lunch at Buttercup. So what's the big deal? How can that interfere with my getting anything done? It's all about answering e-mail queries every night, editting biographical data I requested from the participants, trying to figure out what to do with biographical data, printing out three years of photos for a Red Hat scrapbook so newcomers can see what we have done, collecting checks, depositing checks, keeping in touch with banquet organizer at Buttercup, returning phone calls... etc. Why oh why don't I just delegate. Someday I'll learn to do that.

Oh, and I have a new name. It starts with a B and rhymes with itch. Yep, it's official. I have been called B*tch, directly to my face. Now I know that I have probably been called that a time or two in my life, whispered behind my back, or something. But now it's official. Right in my face. But I must consider the source and pat myself on the back for not initiating a retort... even if she did deserve it.

Okay, there you have it. Not much doing.

Not Much Doing

Just babysitting for the last four days... oh my what an excuse not to do bookkeeping work, payroll returns or sales tax returns. I've been bad too. Very bad. I have become a procrastinator. I did not do my own bookkeeping last year. Now I understand all those tax clients I used to have and their not wanting to face the chore.

Finally got the last three crowns glued in. So now my body really is worth a few cents more. Thars gold in dem dern teef.

Just wondering... why do phone bills come in upside down envelopes? Not just SBC, but also Nextel, AT&T, Cingular and who knows who else. Do they ALL?

You know those giant exercise balls? I used to have one about a year ago when I was trying all sorts of things out for my back. The cats popped it. At least I think that's what happened. I got home from work one day and there it was, flatter than a steam rolled elephant turd. The cats were hiding. Now I bought another one, this time because my Pilates trainer wanted me to have one. It is thicker than the old one. So far the cats have left it alone. But, Baby J thinks it's his.

Baby J also thinks my styrofoam roller and small Pilates ball and Pilates mat are his. Yesterday I caught him taking my five pound dumbells out from under the sofa. Okay, I'll admit it... he uses the stuff more than I do.

Baby J came into the gym today to meet my trainer. I saw him eying her equipment too, especially the Pilates reformer.

Baby J went to the shrink with us today too. I don't think he got anything out of the session... he fell asleep.

Tonight I get peace and quiet. Baby J is with his babysitter... oops I mean baby J is with his mom this evening. Hubby is out feeding slot machines. The cats are asleep on my favorite chair. The 3 pound box of See's candy and 1 pound box of Neldams cookies, and vanilla ice cream are safely tucked away in the kitchen. I'm not going to eat them. I'm not going to eat them. I'm not going to eat them.

All Is Well

Baby J is well. He was well when I got home from work yesterday. In fact when I got home, his uncle was teaching him how to throw a ball, like a boy. We think he might be a pitcher like his great grandpa.

Baby J's parents are better. Baby J went home. It sure is quiet around here. The cats are happy. Hubby is snoring. This tired body is off to bed.

And all will be well... sounds familiar... where did I hear that before???

Baby Barf

Baby J is sick. Very sick. His parents are sick. So, guess who is taking care of sick baby. Yesterday it was barf, barf and more barf. Temperature 102. So we cleaned up barf, gave baby bath, gave ourselves baths, begged baby to drink liquids between doses of baby tylanol, held him, cuddled him all night. The fever broke. Here I am at work, trying hard not to nod off. Grandpa is home with Baby J. They are both asleep. Something is not fair about all this...

Just to catch up

New Years Eve - quiet evening at home with Baby J and Uncle Keith. In bed by 9:30.

New Years Day - Party at sisters house. Ate all colors of vegetarian foods for luck... health, wealth, etc

January 2nd - Went to see Something's Gotta Give - I loved the movie. Husband very depressed. He can't understand why Jack Nicholson looks younger than he is and is 5 years older. When we left the theatre we had to climb two flights of stairs up to our car. I asked husband if he could make it up two flights of stairs. He tripped in the middle of the first flight.... see the movie, then you will understand.

January 3rd - see previous posts. Spent day trying to figure out why my links won't work. Meanwhile, I was sitting working on all this at noon, still in my flannel pajamas, when there was a knock on the door. I figured it was my neighbor lady so answered the door. It was my client, the veterinarian. He presented a 3 pound box of See's and a bag to me. He stood there kind of embarrassed, lost for words. I tried to make some small talk, extremely self conscious about standing there with the door open in my flannel pajamas. Finally I asked him in. He says, "well open the package, I want to see if you like it." So I did. It was a red hat. Not just an ordinary red hat but one that he had made especially for me by one of his clients. It is really cool... no that's the the word... it looks cool but it's warm and wooly. I wore it the rest of the day. Then there is the story behind the hat that Gerry was trying to tell me as I stood there, arms across my chest. I heard bits and pieces. The client is a seamstress. She has a dog. The dog swallowed a bunch of pins. Gerry had to operate and pull pins out with magnets. I forgot to ask if the dog lived.

Went to the movie again. Saw House of Sand and Fog. Went with my sister. Good movie, follows the book well, felt as though I had seen it before. Meanwhile, I was sitting there in my purple jacket and new red hat. There was a middle aged lady next to me. When we left, she pulled a red hat out of her pocket. She was wearing a purple sweater. I asked her if she was a red hatter. She looked at me kind of strange. I followed her out of the theatre trying to explain what a red hatter is, that I am Queen, and perhaps she would like to join us. She walked faster. My sister practically grabbed her by the arm and said, "do you think my sister is crazy? she's not, she really is a red hat queen." The woman bolted out of the theatre and down the street. I must look pretty scary in my new red hat.

Today: Got up early. Went to church. 3rd week in a row. Really like the giant pipe organ at this church in Oakland. Beginning to like the preacher too. I see another two hours of time to set aside every week now. Maybe I can give up one of the Sunday papers.

Okay, off to entertain the husband. The sun is out.

Links again

Oops it seems the only link that is working is the RHS Molls. Now I'm really confused. They are all set up the same. Somebody please help me.

Links

It seems that the link to Baby J's weblog is not working. Interesting since all my other links seem to work. Wonder what's up with Blogger. I get to his weblog when I use the link on my home page. Go figure. Well, try this just for the heck of it http://wittbits.blogspot.com/52588
