I’ve been keeping a little journal and Grandma is going to post it on the internet. She hasn’t had a lot of time lately because she works full time and then when she’s not working, she takes good care of me. Here is what’s been happening.
February 14, 2003
I arrived today weighing in at 9 lbs 12 oz. I gave mom a lot of trouble and the doctors had to do a C Section. I promise I’ll be worth it. Dad fed me my first bottle. Then Grandma & Grandpa came to visit. They held me and took lots of pictures before I was even two hours old. All I wanted to do is sleep but they kept waking me up to feed me and change my diapers. I like to have a couple of ounces of formula every couple of hours now.
February 15, 2003
I met my Uncle C and his fiancée L today. I think they kind of like me and I might have a cousin some day.
February 16, 2003
Dad and Mom decided to name me after Dad today so now I am a junior.
February 17, 2003.
I got all bundled up and put in a contraption they call an infant car seat today. The nurse checked to see that I was all safe and said that she hopes I’m comfortable because I’m going to spend a lot of time in this contraption until I weigh 20 pounds. Grandma hooked me into her car and took me to my new home. I slept all the way home.
February 18, 2003
It was my first day at home. Grandma and Grandpa kept calling to find out if I was okay.
February 22, 2003
Grandma & Grandpa, Mom & Dad and I went out to dinner tonight at Baker’s Square. I slept the whole time in my little carrier. Then Dad had to go to work cause he drives a taxicab.
February 28, 2003
Grandma took me and Mom shopping at Toys R Us tonight. I got a new Eddie Bauer stroller so Mom or Grandma can take me for walks on nice days. I suspect we will be going shopping more often cause I am growing fast and need new clothes already.
March 14-16, 2003
I spent the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. I met my Great Uncle Paul and Great Aunt D. Uncle Paul has been very sick but he held me for a while and gave me a bottle. Then we both slept.
March 18, 2003
The visiting nurse came to see me today and said I am doing very well. Mom is taking good care of me. I weigh almost 12 pounds now.
March 21, 2003
It is my mom’s birthday. I spent the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. Mom got her hair all done up pretty.
March 22, 2003
I visited with Great Uncle Paul again today but he was very tired. He died this evening. I wish I could have known him better because he helped lots of little kids like me and had many friends at the Hall of Health where he volunteered.
The people that Grandpa works for gave him a big donut pillow for me. It’s bright blue with animals all over it. I can kick back and relax for little bits of time and just keep an eye on everyone, including the cats.
March 29, 2003
I went to a memorial service for my Great Uncle Paul today. Actually it was kind of like a big party. I got passed around and met lots of new friends relatives. They pinched my cheeks, snuggled my soft hair, made all kinds of cooing sounds and supervised my diaper changing. I got a little ornery when my second cousins husband was trying to give a little service but no one seemed to mind, in fact some of them kind of giggled.
I spent the night with Grandma & Grandpa and their two cats. I slept six hours, had a bottle and then slept another three hours. I want to make sure Grandma gets plenty of rest so she can keep up with me.
March 30, 2003
When we got up this morning Rusty was in my stroller and got his cat fur all over it. Grandma shooed him out and we went for a walk with Auntie M and had breakfast at Squirrels with two of my great uncles.
I met Grandma H today. She’s in a rest home so she’s a lot like me; we both need tender loving care. Dad snuck in a big bottle of Diet Pepsi for her and we drank our bottles together.
March 31, 2003
I spent the day with Grandma & Grandpa. First we went to lunch. The waitress asked Grandma what race I am. She told her that I am black and white. The waitress said, “Well they sure make cute babies don’t they?” I gave her a big smile. Then we went for a long ride in the car and I slept most of the time. After that I entertained Grandma for a while with all my new smiles and coos. She showed me some kind of toy. It’s colorful, makes noise and I can follow it with my eyes but I can’t figure out how to hold it yet.
Grandma and Grandpa took me and Mom out to dinner at Marie Calendars. I didn’t let Mom eat much because I was hungry too so she had to box up her dinner for later. We went to the store and got 15 cans of formula for me, the expensive kind with iron in it. But I am worth it
